Affiliate networks and marketing are one of the means many vendors sell their products through. Affiliate marketing promises some renumeration or commission or affiliate benefit to people who bring sales or members to your sites.

Has the concept worked for you? Have you gained from this means of marketing?

I went a whole month on website before without affiliates, then I found a web ring sort of thing and my traffic, and usersbase nearly doubled. I was amazed at how much a little 'scratch my back i'll scratch yours' ethic goes. My only regret is that I didn't get to it sooner. I have learned though that you don't want to accept affiliates who have little to no traffic through their site, it's nice to help people out but you won't get many users in, if any at all.

I agree with you and webring concept works fine for most users. What I am referring to is Affiliate marketing, so evenif it gets you a sale a month, still you are able to sell your product. Now if the person enrolling in your affiliate program does not have many visitors on their site, still does not affect you much, because they aren't going to be paid for showing your site's link/ products. They get paid on commission basis or similar, depending upon sales they bring in. I can understand you may not benefit much, but again there is nothing to loose or am i missing something here?

Actually, I am planning to give it a try on one of my sites, but wanted to see how expets here feel about the concept. The views here will atleast give me fair idea as to what limitations and expectations to have with this program.

Earlier i participated in affiliate program of a web host where I brought them few clients, but unfortunately I wasn't paid. They had some ceiling level of $50 before they would send me a cheque and when you are earning just $3 as commission, 17 clients was a little difficult ask, so i ended up sending 10 odd clients for no good. But we learn from mistakes, so let it be a lesson. Not every affiliate program is worth enrolling. Incentives need to be practical.

I hope to bring my experiences into play if i launch such a program for my site.
